Reasons for poor sealing effect of silicone adhesive

Adhesive failure refers to poor adhesion between silicone adhesive and substrate, resulting in poor sealing effect

Adhesive failure refers to poor adhesion between silicone adhesive and substrate, resulting in poor sealing effect. Usually manifested as peeling between the substrate and silicone adhesive. Cause analysis:

1、 Application issues

1. Improper cleaning method for substrate surface and inappropriate solvent used for cleaning.

2. The surface cleanliness of the substrate does not meet the requirements for silicone adhesive application, and the substrate surface does not evaporate and dry during the application of silicone adhesive.

3. Improper use of primer or primer that has expired before use.

4. Excessive primer applied on the surface of the substrate, and the substrate surface did not evaporate and dry when applying silicone adhesive.

5. The silicone adhesive inside the interface was not fully compacted during the application process.

6. The contact area between silicone adhesive and substrate is too small to ensure the adhesion between silicone adhesive and substrate (interface design is unreasonable).

7. Silicone adhesive is affected by external factors during the curing process, such as wind load, thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate.

8. During construction, the ambient temperature is below 5 ℃, causing condensation and hidden dew on the surface of the substrate.

2、 Applicability issues

1. The stone curtain wall has not undergone pollution testing, making it impossible to determine whether silicone adhesive will contaminate the substrate.

2. The use of acidic adhesive in metal and stone curtain walls can cause chemical reactions between the adhesive and the substrate.

3. The use of acidic adhesive for bonding between glass and aluminum profiles in glass curtain walls, as well as for bonding the coated surface of coated glass, can lead to bonding failure.

4. Without conducting compatibility and adhesion tests before starting work, it is impossible to ensure the adhesion between silicone adhesive and substrate. Chemically incompatible assembly accessories (such as sealing strips, spacer strips, gasket strips, fixing blocks, etc.) that come into contact with silicone adhesive will cause the silicone adhesive to discolor or lose its adhesion to the substrate.
